This was our first experience at The Light The Night walk for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Walk is a National Walk done by all the Chapters of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This year The Walks took place between Sept. 20th and the 24th, with The Virginia Kickoff, by The Southwest Virginia Walk, occurring Thursday September 20th. This is the third year The Walk has become a National Event. WHAT LIGHT THE NIGHT IS ALL ABOUT... Light The Night is a walk to raise money for research and patient programs. All the money raised at the Southwest Virginia Walk stays in the state of Virginia. $.75 of every dollar go to research and patient programs. The theory is to hold a short walk at twilight, with as many people participating as possible. The people carry large helium filled ballons that blink on and off with small lights. These are to show the over 640,000 people currently living in America with a blood related cancer, that there are people out there who care and want to make a difference. |
